What it actually is

Shenzhen grew from a fishing village in 1980 to a 20-million-strong megacity by 2025, now China's top tech hub. This experience weaves together three Shenzhen eras: the Original SEZ zone around Luobao Road, the tech-paradise Huaqiangbei electronics district, and the coastal escapes of Dapeng Peninsula. From snapping sci-fi cityscapes at sunset to hiking the National Geographic-rated Dongsi Coastal Trail, Shenzhen.

Why it’s worth going

Shenzhen is the only city where you can witness 40 years of urban evolution in a single skyline — from a fishing village in 1980 to China's Silicon Valley in 2025. The contrast between ultramodern glass towers and quiet Qing-dynasty temples five minutes away is unlike anywhere else on Earth. Add 300+ days of sunshine, a subtropical coastline, and some of China's most photogenic urban exploration terrain, and Shenzhen rewards repeat visits endlessly.
