What it actually is
Tianmen Mountain rises as a single karst slab more than 1,500 m above the Zhangjiajie basin in Yongding District, Hunan. A classic one-day route threads its signature features in sequence: the world's longest passenger cableway, which climbs roughly 7.4 km from the city directly to the summit; a cliff-hugging glass skywalk bolted to the west face, with glass-floor sections over a sheer drop; the Tianmen Cave natural arch, a karst opening about 131 m high reached by a 999-step staircase; and a forest-park shuttle down the famous 99-bend mountain road. The combination of cable car, skywalk, and cave makes it well suited to first-time visitors and families, with an early start recommended to stay ahead of cableway queues.
